Introduction: This cross-sectional study aimed to analyze self-esteem and exercise dependence (ED) in 80 strength exercise practitioners Methods: A questionnaire with sociodemographic questions related to strength exercise practice, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the EDS-R were used. Data were analyzed by “U” Mann-Whitney's, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlation tests (p <0.05). Results: Practitioners perceive themselves with a high self-esteem score (Md = 33.5). Practitioners for more than three years and more than three times a week had higher scores in the dimensions and total ED score (p<0.05). A significant and negative correlation of age was found with the dimension of avoiding withdrawal symptoms (r= -0.22). Conclusion: increase in practice time and weekly training frequency seems to lead to an increase in the ED degree of the bodybuilder. However, it is noteworthy that older age is related to lesser withdrawal symptoms.
