Coping can be defined as a set of cognitive and behavioral strategies developed by people to deal with internal and external requirements of the relationship between the individual and the environment. These strategies are related to the mental health, once they can moderate the impact of the adversities throughout life, besides increasing the levels of psychological well-being and reducing the suffering. This work consists in a study of narrative review of the literature about the coping model of Folkman and Lazarus. It was concluded that the coping theory proposed by Folkman and Lazarus is still an important tool to explain the strategies used by people in face of a stressful event, as well as to exhibit interventions in order to help individuals to deal better with the stressful situationReferences
