Control Materno y Autocuidado de Niños con Diabetes Tipo 1

Introducción: el autocuidado en niños con enfermedades crónicas puede ser promovido u obstaculizado por las prácticas parentales. Este estudio analizó la relación entre las prácticas maternas de control (apoyo apropiado vs. control psicológico) y el autocuidado en niños con diabetes mellitus tipo 1 (DM1). Método: 23 madres de niños con DM1 participaron en el estudio, respondieron una entrevista semiestructurada sobre prácticas maternas de control y el Cuestionario de Rutina de Diabetes Pediátrica, que evaluó el autocuidado de los niños. Resultados: el apoyo apropiado de la madre, especialmente cuando se expresa en explicaciones, aliento y afecto positivo, fue un predictor efectivo del autocuidado infantil. Discusión: el apoyo apropiado favorece el logro de la autonomía por parte del niño, que progresivamente se vuelve más capaz de cuidar su propia salud. Conclusiones: los programas de intervención para niños con DM1 y sus familias deben promover prácticas de apoyo apropiado en los padres.
