Introduction: The Battelle Developmental Inventory Screening was adapted for Brazil (BDIS-BR), but its psychometric properties have not yet been tested. The aim of this study was to investigate the psychometric evidence of the BDIS-BR in 282 children under two years of age. Methods: The validity based on the internal structure was verified using Mokken Models, and convergent and concurrent validity were verified through age trends and comparison with the Denver II Test. Results: The BDIS-BR was shown to be a unidimensional measure and the empirical ordering of the items was similar to the original. Regarding convergent and concurrent validity, the results in the BDIS-BR showed a strong positive association with the age of the children (ρ = 0.92; p = 0.001), and high levels of agreement with the Denver II Test (86% to 96%). Conclusion: The BDIS-BR is a child development screening instrument with good psychometric properties and can contribute to the assessment of Brazilian children.
